DHL "Delivery Rescheduled" — What It Means & What to Do

If your DHL tracking shows "Delivery Rescheduled," your package was originally scheduled for delivery on a specific date but that delivery will no longer happen as planned. The package has been moved to a new delivery date — which may or may not be shown in your tracking details.

This status can be triggered by operational issues on DHL's end, circumstances at the delivery address, or a change you requested. While it's frustrating to wait longer than expected, "Delivery Rescheduled" doesn't mean anything is wrong with your package — it's safe and the delivery process is continuing.

Mail & Package Delivery

Here's what causes rescheduled DHL deliveries, when to expect your package, and what you can do to take control of the situation.

What It Means

"Delivery Rescheduled" means the planned delivery date has changed. The package is still in DHL's possession and on its way, but the delivery will now happen on a different date.

This is different from a failed delivery attempt:

| Status | What it means | |---|---| | Delivery Rescheduled | Delivery date changed proactively | | Consignee Not Available | Delivery attempted, no one home | | Delivery Attempt Could Not Be Completed | Delivery failed for another reason | | Shipment is on Hold | Package held pending issue resolution | | Scheduled for Delivery as Agreed | New confirmed delivery appointment |

Key distinction: "Delivery Rescheduled" means the date changed before a delivery attempt was made. If the  courier showed up and couldn't complete delivery, you'd see a different status instead.

The tracking entry may include a new estimated delivery date, or it may simply indicate that scheduling is being updated — check the full tracking history for any additional details.

Why It Happens

DHL deliveries get rescheduled for a variety of reasons:

Mail & Package Delivery

1. Operational volume or capacity issues During peak periods (Christmas, Chinese New Year, sales events), DHL depots can be overwhelmed with volume. Packages that were planned for delivery on a given day may be pushed to the next business day.

2. Weather or transport disruption Severe weather, road closures, or transport delays can prevent  couriers from completing their planned routes. DHL reschedules affected deliveries for the next available day.

3. The courier ran out of time Delivery routes are timed, and some days couriers simply can't reach every address on their list before the end of their shift. Your package is prioritized for the next business day.

4. You or the shipper requested a change If you used DHL On Demand Delivery to change your delivery date, or the shipper modified the delivery arrangement, this status reflects that requested change.

5. Address or access issue requiring resolution If there's an address-related problem or building access issue that needs to be resolved before delivery can be reattempted, the delivery is rescheduled while the issue is addressed.

How Long It Lasts

Your package will typically be rescheduled for the next 1–2 business days. The new delivery date depends on the reason for rescheduling:

Shipping & Logistics

  • Volume/capacity issue: Usually next business day
  • Weather disruption: Once conditions normalize — typically 1–3 business days
  •  Courier timing issue: Next business day (sometimes same day if routes are adjusted)
  • Recipient-requested change: The date you selected via On Demand Delivery

What to expect: You'll see "Scheduled for Delivery as Agreed" or "With Delivery Courier" when the rescheduled delivery is confirmed and the driver loads your package.

If you don't see a new delivery date within 2–3 business days, contact DHL to confirm the updated schedule and ensure nothing else is causing the delay.

Should You Be Concerned?

Mild concern is understandable, but the situation is usually straightforward. Your package is safe — it's just being delivered later than originally planned.

Completely normal:

  • A 1–2 day delay due to volume or operational reasons
  • Not seeing an exact new delivery date immediately — it may take a few hours for the new schedule to appear in tracking
  • This status appearing around holidays or peak periods

Worth following up if:

  • The tracking hasn't updated for 3+ business days after "Delivery Rescheduled"
  • The new delivery date has also passed without delivery or further updates
  • You see repeated rescheduling events without any delivery progress
  • The delay is causing a practical problem (time-sensitive shipment, items needed urgently)

Take control: Instead of waiting passively, use DHL On Demand Delivery to set a specific delivery window or redirect to a ServicePoint — this gives you certainty rather than depending on DHL's automatic rescheduling.
