If your UPS tracking shows "Proof of Delivery Available," your package has been successfully delivered and UPS has generated an official Proof of Delivery (POD) document. This document serves as formal confirmation that delivery was completed — including the date, time, location, and in many cases the name or signature of the person who received it.
This status is a positive one — it means the delivery process is complete. However, if you or the intended recipient didn't actually receive the package, this record becomes important evidence for a missing package claim.
Here's what Proof of Delivery contains, how to access it, and what to do if delivery is confirmed but the package is nowhere to be found.
What It Means
"Proof of Delivery Available" means UPS has finalized the delivery record and the official POD document is accessible. This typically appears shortly after the package is marked as delivered.
What a UPS Proof of Delivery includes:
- Delivery date and time
- Delivery location (front door, reception desk, mailroom, UPS Access Point, etc.)
- Name of the person who signed (if a signature was required)
- Signature image (for signature-required shipments)
- Delivery photo (for UPS My Choice members with photo delivery enabled)
How this differs from related statuses:
| Status | What it means | |---|---| | Delivered | Package marked as delivered in the system | | Proof of Delivery Available | Formal POD document ready to access | | Left at Door | Delivered without signature, at the entrance | | Investigation Opened | Package reportedly missing after delivery |
The POD is most relevant for business shippers, legal disputes, insurance claims, and cases where a package is reported missing after the tracking system shows "Delivered."
Why It Happens
UPS generates a Proof of Delivery automatically as part of its standard delivery completion process. It appears because:
1. The delivery driver completed the drop-off Once the driver scans the package as delivered — whether at the door, with a signature, or at a UPS Access Point — the system records all associated data and generates the POD.
2. A signature was captured For signature-required shipments, the driver captures the recipient's signature on their handheld device. This is digitized and attached to the POD record.
3. A delivery photo was taken UPS drivers increasingly photograph packages at the point of delivery. This photo becomes part of the POD for applicable shipments.
4. The shipper requested POD documentation Business shippers often request POD as part of their UPS service agreement — particularly for high-value, regulated, or contractual shipments.

How Long It Lasts
"Proof of Delivery Available" is a permanent status — it doesn't change or expire in the short term. The delivery record itself is:
- Available online: For approximately 120 days from delivery for standard tracking
- Available via UPS account: Business shippers with UPS accounts can retain records longer
- Available on request: UPS can provide historical POD records for a fee after the standard retention period
When to access it: If you need the POD for a claim, legal matter, or business record, download or print it as soon as possible. Don't rely on it being accessible indefinitely through the standard tracking page.
For packages where delivery is confirmed but the item wasn't received, the timeline for filing a missing package report matters — act within a few days of the delivery date.
Should You Be Concerned?
No — if you received the package. This status simply confirms delivery is complete and documentation is available.
Yes — if you didn't receive the package. If UPS shows "Proof of Delivery Available" and "Delivered" but you or the recipient never got the package, act quickly:
- Check the delivery location — the POD may show it was left at a neighbor's, mailroom, leasing office, or secure location
- Check for a delivery photo — UPS My Choice members can sometimes see where exactly the package was placed
- File a report promptly — UPS and shippers have time limits on missing package claims
Also relevant for businesses: If you're a shipper and a recipient claims non-delivery, the POD is your primary documentation. A signed POD is strong evidence that delivery was completed as expected. See UPS Investigation Opened for what happens when a delivery dispute escalates.
